A Lawmaker representing Wukari/ Ibi Federal Constituency of Taraba State in the House of Representatives, Hon Danjuma Shiddi has called for urgent intervention of President Muhammedu Buhari, Director of State Security Services, DSS, the Police High Command among others over the continued detention of his Campaign Director General, Samaila Yakubu and others on trumped up charges.

The Lawmaker made the call in a press conference over the weekend at National Assembly Complex in Abuja.

Hon. Shiddi who is currently the Taraba South Senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, further accused the Taraba state governor of masterminding random arrest of his members and supporters in the state for no reason.

The lawmaker informed that despite many arrest, intimidation and fear from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state, he and his party faithfuls are ready to contest next year’s general election in the state.

He further commended members of the House Press Corps at the National Assembly for their objective reportage adding that the last press conference was well reported by the media.

Hon Shiddi while fielding in question from reporters during the event explained how most of his supporters have been arrested and charged to court for no reason.

He further accused the PDP in Taraba state of perpetrating politics of bitterness and rancour, especially in Southern Taraba.

He also accused the judiciary in the state of complacency wondering why people from the opposition party should be arrested, charged to court and sent to Correctional Service without fair hearing as guaranteed by the Constitution.

While calling for thorough investigation on the matter by joint security agencies and commands, he also accused the police in the states of supporting and doing the bidden of the opposition

Reacting to questions, the Lawmaker also explained reasons why the action of the governor might affect the general elections next year.

In his earlier press conference, the lawmaker had alleged threat to life and those of his supporters by the incumbent leadership in his state noting that over fifty million naira was required to meet up with the bail condition of his Director General, two Permanent Secretaries and two first class chiefs who are under the payroll of the state government, before they could be granted bail.

Hon Shiddi also emphasized that the ongoing political situation in his state if left unchecked could undermine peaceful democratic norms and culture in the country and the state as far as next year’s election is concerned.

He called on his supporters in the state and beyond to remain calm as he is doing everything humanly possible to address the situation while warning the ruling party, PDP in his state against threats to other political parties as well as denying them the opportunity to exercise their franchise.

The lawmaker conclusively, called on the government at the center along with security agencies to intervene on the matter so as to ensure equal opportunities for all who want to partake in next year political contest without fear of favour and molestation.
