The Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming 2023 election, His Excellency Alhaji Atiku Abubakar (GCON) has held a meeting in Abuja today with a joint team of officials from the International Republican Institute (IRI) and National Democratic Institute (NDI) led by Mr. Frank LaRose, the Secretary of the State of Ohio, USA.

In a statement signed by AbdulRasheed Shehu, Special Assistant to Atiku on Broadcast Media, he said that, the Wazirin Adamawa had valuable discussions with members of the American delegation bordering on the mutual benefits of strengthening democracy, integrity of the electoral system and especially, protecting the rule of law among other issues.

According to the statement, the PDP presidential flagbearer and former Vice President of Nigeria hinted that in the course of deliberations with the IRI and NDI officials, he had proposed the development of special ballots to stem the menace of vote-buying that is fast becoming an abnormal norm and threat to our electoral system’s ability to deliver free and fair outcome.

At the end of the meeting, the PDP standard bearer, H.E. Atiku Abubakar thanked the visiting team profoundly for their interest in Nigeria, in the context of sustainable development.

The International Republican Institute and National Democratic Institute have consistently supported and promoted initiatives to deepen democracy in America and the world
