Sadio Mane may not feature in the World Cup at Qatar after suffering a knee injury during Bayern Munich’s 6-1 win over Werder Bremen on Tuesday.
The Senegal international went down after just 15 minutes of play and was replaced by Leroy Sane.
With just 13 days to go until Senegal’s World cup opener against the Netherlands, fears are growing that the attacking star could miss the tournament.
Bayern boss Julian Nagelsmann said after the tense match that, “I can’t say anything for sure, he took a blow to the head of his shin.
“That’s an unpleasant spot, it radiates a bit into the muscles. I think he has to go to the X-ray to see if there is something there, because it is splintering easily. But I hope that nothing is wrong. I can’t say anything for sure yet.”
Assistant coach Dino Toppmoller added: “Sadio Mané was hit on the leg, which caused him a little nerve pain.
“Nothing too serious and his participation in the World Cup should not be in jeopardy.”
Now according to French media outlet L’Equipe, Mane is out of the World Cup, saying it is bound to be a huge blow for Senegal.
Mane is the star man that fired them to Africa Cup of Nations glory in January and was also the one who scored the winning penalty which sent Senegal into the World Cup.
Senegal will be up against Netherlands, Ecuador and host nations Qatar in the world cup opening matches.
