Nigeria hit a positive key on world stage yesterday when athlete Tobi Amusan broke a record in the world Athletics championship game in Eugene, Oregon, United States of America and emerged world champion.

Amusan broke the semi-final record and also, set a final new World record of 12.12 and 12.06 seconds respectively in the Women’s 100m Hurdles, all within 30 minutes to win the Gold Medal in the final day of the World Athletics Competition.

For the victory, the proud new world champion walked away with a cheque of $100,000 for breaking the World record in the women’s 100m hurdles event.

According to United States based Benevolence Iluobe, “Tobi is a source of pride to all Nigerians in the U.S. and indeed, everywhere for the enviable feat that has put Nigeria on positive imprint on world’s stage.”

Edo North Senatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Hon. Barrister Paschal Ugbome said, “Tobi is an epitome of commitment, focus and dedication”, saying, it is a breath of fresh air that all Nigerians should be proud of.

The Chief Executive officer of D-Degree Digital Hub, parent company of ddnewsonline.com, Mr. Olaniyi Dopamu said he identifies with this great achievement, that “this is a sign of good things to come our way with focus and hard work, especially among the youths.”
