The House of Representatives has called for the rehabilitation of Ilesha-Baruba-Chikanda Road in Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State.

Hon. Mohammed Omar Bio in a motion at plenary on Wednesday noted that Ilesha Baruba-Chikanda Road is a trunk ‘A’ Road that passes through several Communities in Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State.

He also noted that the road is a major link from Nigeria to the Republic of Benin, facilitating economic activities between Nigeria and the neighbouring countries.

He, however, expressed concern that the deplorable condition of the road has caused accidents in recent times, which have resulted in the loss of lives and properties.

He said the that the dilapidated state of the road has caused untold hardships to commuters who are forced to waste countless hours trying to manoeuvre the failed portions on the road, adding that neglecting the road will negatively impact the economy of Kwara State and the country in general.

The House resolves to urge the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) to make provisions for the rehabilitation of Ilesha-Baruba-Chikanda Road in Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State in its 2023 Budget estimates and mandates its Committee on Works to ensure compliance.
