President Muhammadu Buhari recently appointed Umar Ibrahim el-Yakub as a new member into the Federal Executive cabinet in the position of the Honourable Minister of State for Works and Housing.

The appointment of el-Yakub was roundly applauded in his home State of Kano and around the nation, with many people who have had the benefit of acquaintance and working with him, saying the new Minister is thorough-bred professional and poster boy for humanitarian service.

The people of Kano State expressed appreciation to President Buhari for choosing Mr. Umar El-Yakub to represent them in that enviable position, aat this time when the State is looking for selfless politicians, saying they have no doubt that the wisdom that informed the appointment is apt and well-founded.

According to Kano born politician and government consultant, Dr. Zakari Buba, he said, “the appointment of Honourable El-Yakub is a recognition for hard work, visionary focus, loyalty and an eloquent testimony to his disposition to serve the people whenever he’s called upon”.

What many people were unaware of is that, the Minister is a silent achiever who has been very active in service the nation in various capacities and leadership positions in the last two decades, choosing rather to work unobtrusively in public life for the benefit of people.

Before this recent appointment, Umar Ibrahim el-Yakub was a Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (House of Representatives). Prior to that, he had been a distinguished member of the House of Representatives, first in 1998 and thereafter, from 2003 to 2007 representing Kano Municipal Federal Constituency under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

With the sterling sentiments that have gone before the new Minister, the expectations are high but not daunting for a man whose life has been a profile in service.
