Well known aspiring 2023 presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has recently been surrounded with a lot of controversies ever since he made the move to achieve his life time ambition of becoming the President of Nigeria. There are about six different Tinubu troubles and we’ll kickstart with the most urgent one: His health.

Back in February 2022, the reputable 70-year-old former Lagos State governor had gone viral for allegedly wetting himself in a video during his visit to the Ajuwale of Ijebu land.

In the video he was seated on a black couch and had risen to give a speech but his attire had soaked from behind. This piqued the interest of many Nigerians, including Reno Omokri, the media aide to former President of Nigeria, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. Reno Omokri later went on to make a Youtube video airing his suspicions of the presidential aspirant suffering from enuresis disease which means a loss of bladder control, usually caused by an enlarged prostate gland and could be a sign of cancer or diabetes.

He then called on the All Progressives Congress Party (APC) members to expose the health status of their leader. A support group for the APC leader released a statement saying that the viral video was manipulated and that he was in perfect health. This is just one of his many alleged health challenges as he was spotted patronizing many hospitals abroad last year and underwent a surgery on his right knee as well.

The next Tinubu trouble on our list is his age.

Said to be born in 1952 the Nigerian politician, popularly called Jagaban, has had many speculations of his real age, when his first child Folasade Tinubu-Ojo’s birth date information was changed on Wikipedia according to the Foundation for Investigative Journalism from 1972 to 1962 and her father’s age from 1952 to 1942 which would make the Jagaban 80 years as of today.

However, the published age of the Iyaloja is at 46 years old, but many reckon she is far older, even as far as pushing into her 60’s and following the numerous suspicious changes made to her Wikipedia profile between September and December 2021, although Wikipedia can be edited and altered by anyone.

There is a strict policy of Wikipedia stating that whatever information being added to the site must come from a reliable and verifiable source, only then will it be made public.

Tinubu’s troubles don’t end here, next we look at the controversy surrounding his paternity.

After deep investigations into his paternity, the origins of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, including cultural backgrounds, ancestors, bloodline all seem to come against the common knowledge known by most Nigerians. It has been confirmed from a reliable source that Bola Ahmed Tinubu is from Iragbiji, Osun State and several credible accounts from Iragbiji have confirmed his original name to be Amoda Lamidi Sangodele.

The Tinubu name was popularized by Madam Efunroye Tinubu who is thought to be the first of the Tinubu line. Due to many contradicting files and documents there are speculations that the 70-year-old politician has disowned his biological parents and was adopted by legendary business magnate Abibat Mogaji, the late Iyaloje of Lagos State.

Some theories say that as a child Tinubu was abandoned and then fought his way up to high society and took advantage of the opportunities that came his way such as furthering his education in the United States of America.

That ending leads us to the beginning of the next Tinubu issue: His educational certificates.

As a highly regarded politician, a former governor and Senator, all educational certificates are required of him and educational qualifications are usually made public for transparency; transparency, however, seems to be something the affluent politician does not have in this regard.

According to sworn affidavits he attended St. John’s Primary School, Aroloya, Lagos for elementary education and Children’s Home School in Ibadan, he then went abroad to study accounting at Chicago State University.

In 1999 when he submitted his documents to the Independent National Electoral Commission ahead of running for governor at the time, the documents stated that he had attended Government college, Ibadan for his secondary school education and Chicago State University records had his birth year as 1954 not 1952.

He was able to cover the controversy back then claiming that both were errors, fast forward to 2022, he is running for the seat of the Nigerian President and when the documents he had submitted to INEC were released to the public, it was discovered that he did not state the primary or secondary schools he attended which contradicts his claims in the past.

Also, the All Progressives Congress has been under fire recently for allegedly hiring fake bishops to showcase the support of Christians at the unveiling of Tinubu’s running mate, Kashim Shettima.

On the 20th of July 2022, the unveiling of the APC’s vice presidential candidate took place, but before the event itself had started, all hell broke loose. Pictures of numerous bishops and clerics at the event had made their way to social media and many people began to identify the bishops and clerics to be fake. It all started when a Twitter user had quoted a picture of one of the ‘bishops’ and tweeted that he was his mechanic, adding, ‘when did he become a bishop just like that?’

Numerous people on social media started identifying the ‘bishops’ and ‘clerics’ to be something else. After that, another video surfaced on social media showing some men and women changing into the outfits of clerics and bishops, pushing the agenda that these bishops and clerics were indeed fake.

The APC had received serious backlash from Nigerians for this alleged devious act and the Tinubu campaign organization addressed the matter, denying all allegations of hiring fake bishops and said that the viral videos of the bishops and clergymen were unnecessary distractions. It is like going from a litany of troubles to litany of lies (in defence of the obvious.)

Trouble seems to stay close to Tinubu as he used his own hands to create a very controversial situation known today as the Muslim-Muslim ticket.

Religious difference in harmony is one of the factors considered in the Nigerian government system. As one of the presidential candidates of 2023, time came for candidates to reveal their running mates, as vice presidential candidates. Tinubu unveiled his running mate to be Kashim Shettima and this sparked numerous reactions from many Nigerians.

Chapter two of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, states that political parties must have their presidential and vice presidential candidates from different sections of the country, both ethically and religiously. The APC, however, has gone against this part of the constitution by taking up Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a Muslim, as their presidential candidate and Kashim Shettima, also a Muslim, as their vice presidential candidate, earning the protest of Nigerian Christians. Many believe this situation, if not handled properly may lead to a greater problem.

These factors are more than likely to cause trouble for Tinubu as he aims for the No. 1 seat of government in Nigeria. We await the finals in 2023.
