Falcons’ 1-0 win on Thursday against Cameroun’s Lionesses has given them double glories of entering quarter final in Morocco 2022 Women African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) competition.

The lone goal came through Spain-based Rasheedat Ajibade who turned a heroine of the match yesterday.

A capacity crowd in Casablanca, watched the beautiful goal scored by Ajibade in the 57th minute from a cross by Ifeoma Onumonu.

Nigeria started on a strong note, holding the Indomitable Lionesses to their half in the first 10 minutes, but without scoring.

Cameroun became stronger mid-way, but the defence by Ashleigh Plumptre, Osinachi Ohale, Onome Ebi and Tony Payne was a great bulwark against them.

The game was neither here nor there in second half as both struggled to surpass each other

However, in a streak of wonderful football display in the 53rd minute by Ngozi Okobi who mesmerized the Cameroun’s defence and created a chance for Onumonu, who professionally crossed the ball to Ajibade, and she beautifully made the day for the Falcons and Nigeria.

The semifinal game is now against the hosts, Morocco, and Nigeria is automatically qualified to pick the ticket to the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, in Australia and New Zealand.
