Barrister Femi Aina has been re-elected as the Ogun State Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), promising an aggressive grassroots mobilization drive to position the party as a formidable challenger to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
The re-election, announced during a strategic meeting of party executives, ward chairmen, women and youth leaders, and grassroots mobilizers at the NNPP secretariat in Keesi, Abeokuta, underscores the party’s renewed determination to expand its influence amid internal transitions and national realignments.
Aina, an international solicitor and former senatorial candidate for Ogun West in the 2023 elections, secured unanimous support from delegates, building on his initial election in April 2024. He described the mandate as a “renewed call to action,” vowing to intensify membership recruitment and voter education.

Addressing the gathering, Aina lambasted the APC’s performance under Governor Dapo Abiodun, stating:
“There is no debating the truth that the APC government has failed to live up to the people’s expectations. They must be told point-blank by rejecting their bid to retain power in 2027.”
He outlined key strategies:
Grassroots Mobilization: Door-to-door campaigns to enroll 100,000 new members by mid-2026.
Voter Readiness: Urging all members to obtain Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and ensure “no vote must be wasted.”
Youth and Women Empowerment: Targeted programs to boost participation, including skills training and political leadership workshops.
Alliance Building: Exploring coalitions with like-minded opposition groups, echoing national NNPP signals of openness to partnerships without guaranteeing tickets to figures like Rabiu Kwankwaso.
Aina also addressed recent internal challenges, including the resignation of 2023 gubernatorial candidate Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo to the PDP, which he called a “big vacuum” but affirmed the party’s resilience: “With God on our side, NNPP Ogun will wax stronger.” The party has rejected resignations from its Woman Leader, Hon. Foluke Precious Bagbansoro, and Youth Leader, Hon. Funso Adekunle, deeming them “procedurally defective” under the NNPP Constitution.

The NNPP’s Ogun chapter, under Aina’s stewardship, has gained momentum through by-elections, including the August 2025 Remo Federal Constituency race where candidate Rasaq Segun Shofowora campaigned aggressively. Aina reiterated support for Ajadi’s potential return or similar figures, declaring: “Come 2027, NNPP will produce Ogun’s next governor by the grace of God and the will of the people.”
Alhaji Musibau Adekunle, Chairman of NNPP in Abeokuta South LGA, pledged full commitment from local structures: “We are ready to work for victory in the next cycle.”
As PDP and APC consolidate, Aina’s vow signals NNPP’s intent to disrupt the duopoly, drawing from its 2023 gains where Ajadi polled over 10,000 votes statewide.
