Following the resolution reached by the Road Transport Employers’ Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) and the Lagos State Government (LASG), after the intervention of the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN), Comrade Adesina Teslim Hussaini has emerged as the Chairman of RTEAN in Lagos State.
This latest development was contained in a press release read out to the public at a press conference by the National Secretary, Comr. Adeniyi Yusuf, organized to that effect by the RTEAN, at its National Secretariat in Abuja on Friday.
According to the release: “On behalf of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the RTEAN, we are delighted to announce to Nigerians the peaceful reached by the RTEAN and the LASG, after the intervention of the FGN.
“In compliance with the provision of Item 6 of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), dated 2nd day of October, 2023 between the FGN and the Organized Labour in the crisis that to foster industrial harmony and ensure strict compliance to the rule of law, and the following were reached that: The contentious issue of RTEAN leadership has been laid to rest with the unanimous of appointment of Comrade Asesina Teslim Hussaini as the new Chairman of the RTEAN in Lagos with effect from 1st day of January, 2024.”
It continued: “Al the Association’s properties in Lagos State hitherto taken away will hereby be returned to the union; the portion of the operation of RTEAN in all motor parks in the ssrw will be resume immediately and; No member (s) of RTEAN will be victimized by the union or the LASG for their role (s) in the dispute.
“We are therefore calling on all our members to comply with the peaceful reached and cooperate with the government and the security agencies in discharge of their duties.”
In confirmation, the Executive National President enjoined members to adhere strictly to the resolution, even as he thanked the LASG and other stakeholders that contributed to the peaceful resolution of the matter. He however advised the new chairman to not only devote time to serve the people, but also ensure that they adhere to the law in performance of their duties.
Similarly, the newly appointed Chairman promised to put in his best to ensure that the Association moves to the expected level.
