The Nigerian Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, on July 1, 2024, paid an official visit to the Chief of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF), General Rudzani Maphwanya, in Pretoria, South Africa.

General Musa was received with full honors, including Cannon Gun Salutes, reflecting the high regard in which he is held.

During their closed-door meeting, both leaders discussed matters of mutual benefit and potential areas for cooperation. General Maphwanya emphasized the significance of the meeting between the two largest economies and military powers on the African continent.

According to a statement by Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Director of Defence Information, General Musa described the meeting as essential for addressing the multifaceted challenges facing the continent.

The discussion focused on mutual cooperation and reinforcing bilateral ties, addressing regional security challenges, and the exchange of expertise. The aim was to forge stronger ties between Nigeria and South Africa for the betterment of the continent.

Attendees included SANDF Chiefs of Intelligence, Policy and Plans, International Affairs, and Joint Operations, along with other departmental chiefs of the SANDF.
