The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has awarded Nigeria, three points and three goals from the botched Matchday 4 encounter of the 2025 AFCON qualification series scheduled to be played by Libya and Nigeria in Benina on 15th October.

CAF’s decision to award Nigeria three points and three goals from the unplayed AFCON qualifier against Libya sets a significant precedent, highlighting the importance of discipline and fair play in African football.
The ruling, issued by CAF’s Disciplinary Board and signed by its chairman, Ousmane Kane, penalizes the Libyan Football Federation for breaching AFCON and CAF Disciplinary Code regulations.
By forfeiting the match, Libya suffers a 3-0 defeat, loses a chance at qualification, and faces a USD 50,000 fine, payable within 60 days.
With this decision, Nigeria moves to 10 points from four matches, creating a four-point lead over Benin Republic, who hold second place, while Rwanda follows with five points. Libya, with only one point, is now out of contention.
