The United Kingdom (UK) government has announced that it will introduce digital eVisas for Nigerian students and workers applying for visas starting July 15 2025.

According to the British High Commission, all the successful applicants will receive a digital eVisa, a secure online record of their immigration status instead of a physical visa sticker in their passport. This change applies only to new study and work visa applications submitted on or after the said date.
Applicants who submit their applications before July 15 will continue with the existing process, which includes submitting their passport and receiving a vignette visa sticker. To access their digital eVisa, they will need to create a UK Visas and Immigration UKVI account.
The Chargé d’Affaires at the British High Commission, Gill Lever, OBE, said the change would make it faster and easier for Nigerians to travel to the UK. She explained that the digital eVisa is part of the UK’s wider plans to move to a fully digital immigration system.
Sponsors and applicants for other visa categories, like standard visitor visas, will still receive a visa vignette for now. All applicants must still visit a Visa Application Centre to provide their biometrics.
Gill Lever also stated that, this digital change follows the earlier replacement of Biometric Residence Permits with eVisas for those approved to live or stay in the UK for over six months. All the applicants are advised to submit their applications through the official UK government website at link unavailable.
