As health concerns continue to rise globally, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has added his voice, advising Christians and the general public to practice healthy living as an important part of fulfilling their divine purpose.

In his message titled “Avoid Gluttony,” he described excessive eating as a spiritual snare and pathway to disease, warning that overeating makes the body weak and burdens it with unnecessary digestion.
“Gluttony is a trap of the devil it makes you physically and spiritually vulnerable,” he cautioned.
In a recent spiritually-focused three-course meal in his devotional teachings titled “Eat Right,” “Physical Exercise is Profitable,” and “Avoid Gluttony,” the 83 years old Minister emphasized that physical wellness is deeply connected to spiritual vitality. According to him, maintaining a healthy body is not only Biblical but also promotes longevity and life effectiveness.
“Don’t eat junk foods that endanger your health and then run to God for healing when the doctor’s report comes out,” he warned.

“You should glorify God with your body by eating foods that keep you healthy”.
Pastor Adeboye highlighted that many health challenges being experienced in the today’s society are self-inflicted due to poor nutritional habits, excessive sugar consumption, late night heavy meals and inactive lifestyles. He advised cultivating personal gardens where possible to avoid chemically preserved foods, advocating a return to natural fruits and vegetables.
Explaining further, the revered Minister opined that there is a direct link between unhealthy eating to weakened spiritual alertness.
“You can’t eat junk and expect to wake up at night to pray effectively. Food should nourish, not destroy,” he stated.

He quoted passages from the Bible, specifically 1 Timothy 4:8, highlighting the importance of physical exercise, explaining that while spiritual discipline is important, bodily health must not be neglected, also.
“A soft life without exercise endangers your health,” he said, adding that he has deliberately incorporated walking into his daily routine, including during prayer sessions, to strengthen his body, improve mental health, and boost productivity.
Pastor Adeboye further emphasised fasting as a vital spiritual discipline, recounting his 40 days fast in 1984 as a turning point in his life. Despite his age, he said he still fasts to remain spiritually strong.
“Christians who are serious about their destiny don’t eat every day. I still fast because I want to finish strong,” he concluded.
