Temilade Openiyi, Nigerian singer, songwriter and record producer popularly known as Tems, has made history with her powerful performance at the FIFA Club World Cup Final halftime show, becoming the first African artist to perform at such event.

The performance took place at MetLife stadium in new Jersey on July 13, 2025 during the final match of this year edition of FIFA’S newly expanded 32 team Club World Cup.
The Artist shared the stage with other international musicians Doja Cat and J Balvin delivering a 15 minutes set performance that featured spot appearance by Coldplay and singer activist Emmanuel Kelly.
The musical assemblage in a sporting interlude was a celebration of diversity, culture and the power of music to bring the world together. Tems stood tall not just as a Nigerian but as a symbol of Africa’s rising on the world stage.

With her soulful voice, the performance captivated over 81,000 spectators in the stadium including United States 47th President, Donald Trump. Tems defintely showcased her unique talent, blending afrobeat with pop. Her song “Love-Me-Jeje” was particularly scintillating, keeping the stadium on its feet.
This milestone performance marks a notable moment for African music, solidifying Tems status as a global music icon. from her early days writing songs in Lagos to winning Grammys and now performing at one of the most watched football events in the world.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino praised the halftime performance as a “powerful symbol of unity and purpose” highlighting the impact of music and football in bringing people together.
