Widely publicized prediction claiming the Rapture would occur on September 23-24, 2025, did not materialize, prompting renewed focus on a Bible-based sermon by Rev. Chris Okotie, Pastor of Household of God Church in Lagos. Delivered on September 20 via a video released to DDNewsOnline, Rev. Okotie’s 18-minute sermon refuted a South African Pastor Joshua Mhlakela, who claimed Jesus had revealed the Rapture date in a vision tied to a Jewish holiday and biblical references to trumpets. His clear, scripture-driven message is gaining traction online, offering a grounded perspective amid the failed prediction.

Rev. Okotie commended the South African Pastor Joshua Mhlakela’s intent to urge repentance but firmly rejected the idea of setting a specific date for the Rapture. Citing the King James Bible, he emphasized that the event will be sudden and unpredictable. Key verses included: 1 Corinthians 15:51-52: “We shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump…” Okotie explained that “twinkling of an eye” signifies an event faster than a blink, underscoring its unpredictability. Matthew 24:36: “But of that day and hour knoweth no man…” He called this the Bible’s definitive stance, noting that even Jesus did not reveal the timing. 1 Thessalonians 5:2-4: “The day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night…” Okotie likened the Rapture to an unannounced thief, incompatible with a pre-set date. 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17: “The Lord himself shall descend… with the trump of God…” He clarified that the trumpet sounds at the moment of the Rapture, not months in advance.

Rev. Okotie cautioned against trusting visions that contradict scripture, citing 2 Corinthians 11:14: “Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.” He also referenced Revelation 10:4, which notes God seals some details, including the Rapture’s timing. “The call to follow God is right, but fixing a date is unbiblical,” he said, urging readiness at all times per Matthew 24:44: “Be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.”

Okotie’s sermon, delivered with music and congregational engagement, sees the Rapture occurring before the tribulations in the Book of Revelation. He avoided personal attacks on the South African preacher, focusing instead on aligning beliefs with scripture.

The sermon, viewed over 50,000 times across social media platforms, has sparked discussion, particularly on X. Users have praised its clarity. One X user posted: “Rev. Okotie’s sermon sticks to the Bible live faithfully, don’t chase dates. Solid teaching.” Another commented: “After the Rapture didn’t happen, Okotie’s message is a wake-up call to trust scripture, not hype.” The hashtag #RaptureResponse is gaining momentum among African Christian communities, with some calling the sermon a “timely correction.”

  6. Jesus said he will come like a thief in the night, so we all have access to the word of God , let no man or woman teach you things you already know

    1. Rapture is not predictable. it will be sudden; it will come like a thief in the middle of the night. Just start preparing.
