Former Niger Delta militant leader and traditional ruler, Alhaji Mujahid Asari Dokubo, has vowed to mobilise support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, citing longstanding loyalty and gratitude for the President’s past support during his “most difficult times.”
Dokubo, the Amanyanabo of Torusarama Piri in Degema Local Government Area, made the pledge on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, while hosting the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, at his palace.
“Like you said, my friend, everything that is going to happen, I will be with you in making sure that my friend, the President, succeeds. Everything that I am capable of doing, I will do to make sure that he succeeds,” Dokubo declared.
He revealed that his relationship with Tinubu dates back to 1992, long before he became a traditional ruler, emphasising reciprocity: “He stood by me in my most difficult period, and it is now my turn to stand by him.”

Wike’s visit was part of his ongoing “thank you tour” across Rivers State, aimed at appreciating supporters and rallying grassroots backing for Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda ahead of 2027. The FCT Minister described the visit as both political and personal, highlighting his friendship with Dokubo that “transcends party lines.”
Wike noted Rivers State’s unique cross-party collaboration in supporting Tinubu, stating: “Here, we have shut the door. No other person other than Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
The meeting signals strengthening alliances in the Niger Delta, with Dokubo’s influence seen as a boost for Tinubu’s re-election bid.
