Workers of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) have suspended their ongoing industrial action following a marathon conciliatory meeting with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
The suspension order was issued by Justice Emmanuel Subilim of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN), Abuja Division, on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. The directive came in response to an ex-parte application filed by the FCT Minister and the FCTA (Suit No: NICN/ABJ/17/2026), seeking to restrain the workers under the Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC) from continuing the strike pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.
The strike, which began earlier in January, was over unresolved issues including unpaid allowances, poor welfare packages, delayed promotions, and alleged victimisation of union leaders. It had severely disrupted critical services in the nation’s capital, including waste management, health services, security support, and administrative functions.
The breakthrough followed an intensive, hours-long negotiation session between representatives of the striking unions and Minister Wike, who personally intervened to resolve the impasse. Sources close to the meeting described the talks as “frank, productive, and solution-oriented,” with the Minister assuring workers of concrete steps toward addressing their grievances.
In his ruling, Justice Subilim held that the industrial action posed an immediate threat to public safety and the smooth administration of the FCT. He ordered all parties to maintain the status quo and adjourned the substantive suit to February 10, 2026, for further hearing.

The JUAC leadership has confirmed compliance with the court order and suspension of the strike, while expressing optimism that the Minister’s intervention would lead to lasting resolutions.
The development has restored normal operations across FCTA agencies, bringing relief to residents and businesses in the Federal Capital Territory.
