The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda, has declared that the ongoing political feud between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara is outside the jurisdiction and control of the APC.

Speaking during a media briefing at the party’s national secretariat on Thursday, January 30, 2026, Dr. Yilwatda said the crisis in Rivers State predates the defection of key figures including Governor Fubara into the APC and is rooted in local power struggles and personal differences rather than party affairs.

“The matter between Nyesom Wike and Siminalayi Fubara is not an APC matter. It is not a party issue. It is a Rivers State issue that existed long before any of them joined our great party. The APC did not create it, and it is not within our power to resolve it,” the chairman stated.

He emphasised that the APC remains focused on internal cohesion, membership registration, and preparations for the 2027 elections, urging all members regardless of their state of origin or previous affiliations to work together for the success of the Renewed Hope agenda.

Dr. Yilwatda’s comment comes amid persistent speculation and media reports linking the Rivers crisis to national politics, especially after Governor Fubara’s recent defection from the PDP (or NNPP-aligned faction) to the APC. The state has been gripped by a leadership tussle involving rival factions in the House of Assembly, court cases, security concerns, and threats of impeachment against the governor.

The chairman avoided taking sides, reiterating that the APC would not intervene in what he described as “a family matter” in Rivers but would continue to support governance and development in the state under the leadership of Governor Fubara.
