Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Monday, 16, of February 2026, hosted Miss Etiyemonu Esther, the overall winner and One Day Governor of the 21st Lagos Spelling Bee Competition, at Lagos House, Marina.
The brilliant student of Lagos State Senior Model College, Igbokuta, was celebrated for her outstanding performance, confidence, focus and remarkable hard work throughout the competition.
In his remarks, Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed deep pride in Esther’s achievement and described her as a shining example of the best in Lagos youth.
“Esther represents the very best of our youth confident, focused, hardworking and determined. Her victory is a testament to what our children can achieve when given the right support and opportunities. All of Lagos is rooting for you and your bright future,” the Governor said.

He congratulated her once again and reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to investing in education, talent discovery and youth development through initiatives like the Lagos Spelling Bee.
The 21st edition of the competition, organised by the Lagos State Ministry of Education, saw hundreds of students from public and private schools compete in intense spelling rounds, with Etiyemonu Esther emerging as the champion after correctly spelling challenging words in the final stage.
Esther was appointed “One Day Governor” as part of the prize package, allowing her to spend the day at Lagos House and experience governance at the highest level.
