Nigerian comedian Oluwaseyitan Aletile, popularly known as Seyi Law, has ignited fresh online controversy after declaring that Nigeria is safer today than it was a decade ago, crediting the Tinubu administration for significant progress in tackling insecurity.

During a recent episode of The Honest Bunch Podcast, Seyi Law responded to co-host Daddy Freeze’s question about the country’s security situation: “Nigeria is safer now than 10 years ago.”

He elaborated, claiming the current government has neutralised more bandits than any administration since former President Goodluck Jonathan’s era. “The Tinubu-led government has done more in terms of security. They have neutralised more bandits than all the administrations from Jonathan till now,” he said.

The comedian argued that while challenges persist, the overall security landscape has improved, pointing to reduced incidents in certain regions and enhanced military operations.

Seyi Law’s remarks have drawn sharp criticism and mockery on social media, particularly on X (formerly Twitter), where users highlighted ongoing security issues like banditry in the North-West, Boko Haram in the North-East, and kidnappings across the country.

Some users, however, defended Seyi Law, arguing that certain metrics like reduced Boko Haram attacks in the North-East support his claim, though overall insecurity remains high.

The debate has trended under hashtags like #SeyiLaw, #NigeriaSafer, and #TinubuSecurity, with many contrasting current challenges (e.g., fuel at ₦800/litre, dollar at ₦1,600/$1) to the 2014 era under Jonathan.

Seyi Law has yet to respond to the backlash.
