The Senate Committee on Finance has issued a warrant of arrest against the Registrar General of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), Hussaini Ishaq Magaji, over his repeated refusal to honour invitations and appear before the committee.

The warrant was issued on Thursday, February 26, 2026, during the committee’s budget defence session with the Federal Ministry of Finance and its agencies at the National Assembly.

Committee Chairman Senator Sani Musa (APC, Niger East) accused Magaji of “serial disrespect” to the Senate, stating that the Registrar General had consistently ignored summons and instead sent junior officers to represent him.

Senator Musa said: “The Registrar General has refused on so many occasions to honour invitations and summons by this committee. We have issues with the reconciliation of the revenue of the CAC but each time we summoned him, he would send a junior officer.”

The issue was first raised by committee member Senator Orji Uzor Kalu (APC, Abia North), who urged the committee to recommend Magaji’s removal from office to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Another member, Senator Adams Oshiomhole (APC, Edo North), proposed that the Senate withhold approval of any budgetary allocation to the CAC in the 2026 Appropriation Act until Magaji personally appears before the committee.

Oshiomhole also moved that the CAC be restrained from spending any portion of its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) without prior approval from the National Assembly. The committee unanimously endorsed both recommendations.

The committee has been investigating alleged financial irregularities, revenue reconciliation discrepancies and non-compliance issues at the CAC. The Registrar General’s persistent absence has been cited as a major obstacle to the probe.

The warrant of arrest empowers law enforcement agencies to produce Magaji before the committee or face legal consequences for contempt of the Senate.

The CAC is yet to respond officially to the warrant or the committee’s resolutions.

This is a developing story.
