Six members of the House of Representatives elected from Osun State on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have formally defected to the Accord Party (AP). The lawmakers announced their defection on Monday, March 2, 2026, during a stakeholders’ meeting of the Accord Party held in Osogbo.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Hon. Clement Akanni, who represents Boluwaduro/Ifedayo/Ila Federal Constituency, predicted a landslide victory for Governor Ademola Adeleke in the August 15, 2026 governorship election. He urged Accord Party members to vote en masse and monitor the voting process closely.

Akanni said: “I want to ask, will it be easy for one person to pick up a gun and be killing other people? After voting, stay behind and monitor your votes. Before you start voting, check result sheet, check ballot papers and be sure they are complete.

“After voting, with our projections, 80% votes will go to Adeleke, while the other party will get 20%. We will win and all of us will be alive to witness it.”

He formally announced: “On behalf of Mahruf Adewale (Osogbo Federal Constituency), Bamidele Salam (Ede Federal Constituency), Soji Adetunji (Ikirun Federal Constituency), Mudashiru Lukman Alani (Iwo Federal Constituency), Lanre Oladebo (Irewole/Isokan Federal Constituency), all of us from today have moved to the Accord Party.”

Governor Adeleke’s Response Addressing the gathering, Governor Ademola Adeleke said his defection to the Accord Party in December 2025 was guided by “spiritual direction” during the PDP’s internal turmoil. He thanked PDP members for their past support and urged Accord faithful to work tirelessly for victory.

“You should vote massively for Accord Party, then victory is guaranteed for us. I thank the family of PDP because I am part of the family, I thank you all for the endorsement of today and accept it wholeheartedly. I want to thank Accord Party for accepting me,” Adeleke said.

Impact of the Defections With the defection of these six federal lawmakers, Dr. Lere Oyewumi (Osun West Senatorial District) now remains the only PDP-elected lawmaker from Osun State in the National Assembly.

Additionally, 25 members of the Osun State House of Assembly, all elected on the PDP platform in 2023, had earlier defected to the Accord Party in December 2025 to continue serving their constituents under the governor’s new political platform.

The mass movement has further consolidated Governor Adeleke’s position ahead of the August 15 governorship poll, where he is the Accord Party candidate.
