Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has approved the redeployment of Adetola John as the new Accountant-General of Lagos State and Permanent Secretary, State Treasury Office (STO), effective Monday, March 2, 2026.
The redeployment follows the statutory retirement of the outgoing Accountant-General/Permanent Secretary, Dr. Abiodun Muritala. According to an official circular issued by the Office of the Head of Service and signed by Head of Service Bode Agoro, Adetola John is redeployed from his previous position as State Auditor-General in the Office of the State Auditor-General.

The circular reads in part: “His Excellency, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, Governor of Lagos State, has approved the redeployment of Mr. Adetola John from the Office of the State Auditor-General to the Office of the Accountant-General/State Treasury Office as Accountant-General/Permanent Secretary with effect from Monday, March 2, 2026.”
The Head of Service wished the new appointee success in his new role and called on all stakeholders, including ministries, departments, agencies, banks and other partners, to give the circular the necessary publicity and full cooperation to ensure a seamless transition.
Agoro further noted that the redeployment reflects the state government’s unwavering commitment to sustaining efficiency, transparency, accountability and continuity in public financial management.

Adetola John brings extensive experience in public sector auditing, financial oversight and treasury operations to his new role, having previously served in various capacities within the Lagos State public service.
