The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has launched a blistering attack on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing his administration as the “most incompetent” in Nigeria’s history.
In a statement issued on Thursday, March 5, 2026, and published in major national newspapers including the e-Paper edition of The Guardian, the party accused the Tinubu-led government of presiding over unprecedented economic hardship, worsening insecurity, institutional collapse and policy flip-flops that have left millions of Nigerians in despair.

The ADC, now positioning itself as a major opposition force after attracting high-profile defectors including former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai, said the Renewed Hope Agenda had become a “renewed nightmare” for ordinary citizens.
Key excerpts from the ADC statement, titled “Tinubu Running Most Incompetent Government in Nigeria’s History”: “President Tinubu’s government has demonstrated a shocking level of incompetence, arrogance and disconnect from the realities of everyday Nigerians. From the botched naira redesign policy that crippled the economy to the reckless removal of fuel subsidy without safety nets, every major decision has inflicted pain rather than progress.”
“Insecurity has reached alarming levels under this administration. Banditry, kidnapping, terrorism and cult violence continue unchecked while the military and police appear overwhelmed and demoralised.”
“The cost of living has skyrocketed beyond the reach of average families. Food inflation is in double digits, electricity tariffs have tripled, and unemployment among youth is at crisis levels. Yet the government celebrates phantom achievements and foreign trips.”

“This is not leadership; it is mismanagement on a grand scale. History will record this administration as the most incompetent in Nigeria’s democratic journey.”
The party also criticised what it called “selective justice” in the prosecution of opposition figures, citing ongoing cases against El-Rufai, former AGF Abubakar Malami and others as evidence of political vendetta rather than genuine anti-corruption efforts.
The statement comes as the ADC ramps up its national visibility following recent defections and endorsements. The party has positioned itself as the “only surviving credible opposition” in the country and is actively courting disillusioned members from the PDP, LP and even APC.
ADC National Chairman Ralphs Okey Nwosu, while not directly quoted in the statement, has repeatedly described the Tinubu government as “a regime in free fall” and called for a united opposition front ahead of 2027.
The Presidency and APC National Secretariat are yet to issue an official reaction to the ADC’s scathing assessment. However, senior APC officials have previously dismissed similar criticisms as “the rantings of frustrated politicians who lost relevance.”
