Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has strongly condemned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for what he described as the “unlawful invasion and forceful takeover” of his residential and business premises.
In a statement issued on Monday, March 23, 2026, by his Special Assistant on Media, Mohammed Bello Doka, Malami alleged that EFCC officials, accompanied by heavily armed security personnel, raided and marked properties linked to him without presenting any valid or subsisting court order.

The statement revealed that the operation took place shortly after a solidarity visit by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to Malami’s residence, raising suspicions about the timing and possible political motives behind the action.
Two individuals were reportedly taken into custody during the raid. The EFCC relied on an interim forfeiture order granted on January 6, 2026, which was expressly time-bound for 14 days and had already lapsed, No fresh court order was presented when demanded by Malami’s team, The raid occurred while a related civil suit (Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/20/2026) before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik is still ongoing, with no final determination made by the court.

Doka stated: “This is nothing short of a flagrant disregard for the rule of law, a gross abuse of power, and a dangerous precedent in a constitutional democracy. It represents a calculated attempt to harass, intimidate, and embarrass Malami, evidently on account of his political affiliations.”
Malami’s Position The former AGF reaffirmed his belief in accountability and the fight against corruption, but insisted such efforts must be conducted strictly within the law. He pledged continued cooperation with any lawful judicial process and said he would defend his rights and reputation through appropriate legal channels.

The statement called on “well-meaning Nigerians and the international community” to take note of the development and its implications for the rule of law, justice, and democratic governance in Nigeria.
Malami is currently facing multiple cases, including a 16-count money laundering charge by the EFCC involving approximately ₦9 billion, and a separate five-count charge of terrorism financing and illegal possession of firearms filed by the Department of State Services (DSS). He has consistently described the prosecutions as politically motivated.
