Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, has expressed deep appreciation to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for endorsing him as the preferred successor in the 2027 governorship election. In a statement issued on Thursday, Hamzat described the endorsement as a significant honour and a strong vote of confidence in his ability to lead the state. “Today, I am honoured by the endorsement of my Governor, my brother and my friend, HE Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. His trust means a great deal to me,” Hamzat said.
He noted that the two leaders have worked closely together over the past seven years in the service of Lagos State, adding that he does not take the endorsement lightly. “I remain committed to building on the progress we’ve made together, and look forward to serving Lagosians with integrity, focus and a clear sense of purpose,” the Deputy Governor stated.

Hamzat’s formal declaration of intent to contest the 2027 governorship seat was made on Monday during a closed-door meeting at Lagos House, Marina, where Governor Sanwo-Olu and key stakeholders unanimously endorsed him as the preferred candidate.
The development has been widely viewed as a strategic move to ensure continuity of the “Renewed Hope” agenda in Lagos State, with Hamzat seen as a tested and capable hand to sustain the state’s development trajectory.
