Manchester United are reportedly preparing to open formal talks with Michael Carrick over a long-term contract to become the club’s permanent manager following a highly successful interim period.
The former Middlesbrough boss stepped into the dugout after Ruben Amorim was sacked and has since transformed the team’s fortunes. Carrick has guided the Red Devils to 10 wins in 15 games, lifting them up to third place in the Premier League and securing a return to the Champions League.

According to Sky Sports, United’s hierarchy is set to begin discussions with Carrick before the club’s final Premier League match of the season against Brighton on May 24.
While the club has not completely ruled out other candidates, Carrick is currently the leading choice. His popularity within the dressing room and calm handling of the media have impressed the decision-makers at Old Trafford.

United have kept their options open by making discreet enquiries about other high-profile names, including Paris Saint-Germain boss Luis Enrique and Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann. However, the club is eager to appoint a new manager as soon as possible to allow time for summer transfer planning.
Carrick previously served as caretaker manager in 2021, but this time around, he appears ready to take on the role on a permanent basis.
