The Nigeria Police Force, Delta State Command, has uncovered a gun-running syndicate connected to the Beretta pistol used in the fatal shooting of 28-year-old Oghenemine “Mena” Ogidi by an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in the state.
Investigators traced the firearm through a chain of transactions involving four suspected syndicate members, with the cumulative value of the deals reaching N870,000.

Ogidi was killed on April 26, 2026, while attempting to deliver a parcel containing the Beretta pistol and four rounds of live ammunition through a commercial motor park in Effurun, Delta State. A viral video of the incident showed Ogidi pleading with ASP Usman Nuhu to help identify the sender before the officer opened fire.
Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda Oyeniyi, announced the arrest of four suspects: Emmanuel Chukwuemeka, Clifford Boleyelefa, Amadi Princewill, and Amadi Felix Chibuike.

According to the police, Emmanuel Chukwuemeka was arrested in Bayelsa on May 4, 2026. He confessed to buying the gun from Amadi Princewill for N290,000 and selling it to one Desmond (still at large) for N380,000.
Amadi Princewill was arrested in Imo State on May 15, 2026, and revealed he bought the pistol from Amadi Felix for N200,000. Amadi Felix was subsequently arrested in Owerri on May 16, 2026.

All four suspects are members of the Black Axe confraternity. The police say investigations are ongoing to arrest other members of the syndicate, including Desmond.
The suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The tragic incident has sparked widespread outrage and renewed calls for accountability in the handling of firearms and police conduct.
