Prosecutors noted that the victim was actively involved in public artistic activities critical of the Russian government.

In one of his final public appearances, video footage posted on social media showed Skrepetsky participating in a Russia Day protest outside the Russian embassy in Berlin on June 12. He was seen carrying a painting caricaturing Putin and Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin, while dragging a Russian flag tied to his trousers along the ground.

The brutal killing has raised concerns among Russian dissidents living in exile in Europe, with many fearing it could be a targeted assassination linked to his outspoken criticism of the Putin regime.
Polish authorities have not yet confirmed the motive, but the proximity of the crime scene to the Belarusian consulate and the execution-style nature of the attack have drawn significant attention.

DDNews will continue to monitor developments as the investigation unfolds.
