The Family Court II in Calabar, Cross River State, has sentenced Mr. Endurance Ime Sandy to life imprisonment for the rape of an 11-year-old girl.
The presiding judge, Justice Blessing Obin Egwu, handed down the sentence on Wednesday after a trial that lasted several months.

Delivering the verdict, Justice Egwu declared the convict guilty based on the evidence presented before the court, stating that he deserved no mercy.
“This conviction should serve as a big lesson to individuals whose stock-in-trade is to violate minors,” the judge said.
The judgment was welcomed by child rights advocates as a strong deterrent against sexual violence targeting children.

Principal Partner at Basic Rights Counsel Initiative, Barr. James Ibor, who represented the victim, expressed deep appreciation to all institutions and individuals who contributed to the successful prosecution.
