EFCC Allocates N100bn Recovered Funds to NELFUND
EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede has disclosed that the Federal Government has allocated N100 billion from funds recovered by the anti-graft agency to the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) since 2024.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on the achievements of the Commission under his leadership, Olukoyede said the EFCC recovered over N1.23 trillion and $684 million in 33 months. He explained that N50 billion was approved for NELFUND in 2024 and another N50 billion in 2026 from proceeds of crime.

The EFCC boss said the conversion of recovered funds into productive social investment demonstrates the national impact of anti-corruption efforts. He also revealed that two private universities recovered by the agency were forfeited to the Federal Government. One of them, NOK University, has been converted to the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, Kaduna State, and admitted 1,909 students in December 2025.

In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, the faction said the decision was informed by the hardship faced by Nigerians under the current administration and the need to cooperate with other credible political forces. National Chairman Kabiru Tanimu Turaki said the process must be anchored on transparency, equality, data-driven decisions and egalitarianism.
The faction confirmed its participation in the first G-100 meeting held on August 31, 2026, describing it as a demonstration of its readiness to contribute to an all-opposition platform that can take power and rebuild the country.

Atiku Pledges to Direct Local Government Funds from Day One
African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has pledged to immediately direct local government funds to councils across Nigeria from his first day in office if elected president in 2027.
His official spokesperson, Kenneth Okonkwo, said the former Vice-President would treat the matter as a legal obligation rather than a political choice. The pledge is based on the July 2024 Supreme Court ruling that ordered local government funds to be paid directly to the third tier of government.

Atiku’s camp accused the Tinubu administration of refusing to enforce the judgment for political reasons, alleging that local government allocations were being used to reward APC governors ahead of the 2027 elections. Atiku said his administration would respect court judgments, protect local government autonomy and restore true federalism to drive development at the grassroots.

Duke described Tinubu as a formidable politician but insisted that he is weak in governance. He argued that the country is already in a state of disaster due to poor governance and cautioned that allowing the current administration to continue would take Nigeria further in the wrong direction.

President Bola Tinubu’s FBI files linked to a 1993 United States civil forfeiture case involving $460,000 remain under seal as an ongoing Freedom of Information Act lawsuit continues in Washington.

The case originated in the early 1990s when U.S. agencies investigated suspected heroin trafficking and money movement in Chicago. Investigators traced transactions involving accounts opened by Tinubu at First Heritage Bank in Illinois. In 1993, a U.S. court ordered the forfeiture of $460,000 from one of the accounts after a civil settlement. Tinubu was not convicted of any criminal offence.
The issue has resurfaced through a FOIA lawsuit filed by American transparency activist Aaron Greenspan. In August 2026, Tinubu’s lawyers opposed the release of the records, while the FBI submitted disputed materials to a U.S. judge for private review, citing privacy and law-enforcement exemptions. Whether the files will be fully released before the 2027 election remains uncertain.
