The 2026 African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA) brought together music stars, entertainers and creatives from across Africa and the diaspora for a weekend celebrating African music and culture in Dallas, Texas.
Held on September 12 at Annette Strauss Square within the AT&T Performing Arts Centre, the event returned after a two-year break in a broader festival format that combined live performances, entertainment, fashion and the awards ceremony. Organisers described the finale as a celebration recognising artists, creators and cultural voices contributing to the growth of African music.
The night produced several notable winners. Davido took home Album of the Year for 5ive, one of the categories in which he had been heavily nominated. Ruger won Best Male West Africa, while Tems emerged as Best Female West Africa. Other winners across various categories included Patoranking, Marioo, Tyla, DJ Maphorisa, Shenseea, Dope Nation, Victony and Juma Jux.

The awards also extended beyond music. Real Warri Pikin won Best Stand-Up Comedian, Uche Montana was recognised in the Best Actor/Actress category, and Nasty Blaq won Best Influencer. Timaya received the Timeless Impact Award, reflecting recognition for personalities whose influence goes beyond recorded music.
Away from the trophies, the event generated significant online attention through its performances and celebrity moments. One of the most discussed incidents involved Real Warri Pikin joining Timaya on stage during his performance of “Ukwu.” A video of Timaya lifting the comedian circulated widely on social media, prompting mixed reactions. Real Warri Pikin later apologised to her husband and fans over the moment.
Fashion formed part of the AFRIMMA experience, with red-carpet-style arrivals highlighting African creativity and style alongside the music. Organisers positioned the festival as a platform connecting African artists and audiences across borders, featuring performers and DJs from across the continent and the diaspora.
