Adewumi hails Ohanenye's appointment as Women Affairs MinisterMinister of Women Affairs

The President of a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO), Takem Empowerment Initiatives (TEIs), Amb Rachael Adewumi, who is also the woman leader, Abuja Chapter, National Association of Nigerian Traders (NANTs) has hailed appointment of Barr Uju Kennedy – Ohanenye as Women Affairs Minister, even as she advised her not to relent in her philanthropy.

Speaking to Journalists recently in her office in Abuja, she unveiled plans to empower women and engage them as town criers to reach out to others in the rural areas, with a view to persuade them to form cooperative groups, so that it can be easy to empower them.

“I will teach them skills, vocations, and needful tips to boost their businesses, so as to complement their husbands and train their children.

She added that her NGO will partner with the Ministry of Women Affairs to find local and international markets for their products.

Amb. Adewumi also commended the Minister for her heart of gold.
According to her, the Minister visited the National Hospital on her first day in office and stated: “Prior to my appointment as, it had been a regular practice in the last 5 years to visit the National Hospital to identify with indigent Nigerians who cannot afford their hospital bills.”

At the visit, she went on, Barr Uju Kennedy – Ohanenye paid hospital bills of a victim of gas cylinder explosion who was hospitalized since May; a 2 month old baby who underwent hernia surgery and other patients with various medical issues. She promised to use part of her first salary to write off the bills of the gas explosion victim.

Extolling her virtues of touching lives, she enjoined the Minister not to relent in her philanthropy.

The FCT NANTs woman leader, however informed that the Minister’s philanthropy was from her personal income, adding that when she started philanthropy, she did not know that she was being watched, thus she became a minister.

” Now that she is a minister, more of the less privileged in the society will acquire trades, even as she appealed to other public office holders and well – to – do individuals in the society to emulate the minster.
