Deputy Comptroller (DC) MS Shuaibu officially assumed duties as the Acting Customs Area Controller of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun I Command, Idiroko, on Tuesday, December 10, 2024. His appointment follows the statutory retirement of Comptroller JF Ojo.

The Command’s spokesperson, CSC Hammed Bukoye Oloyede, highlighted DC Shuaibu’s notable tenure as Coordinator of the recently disbanded Joint Border Patrol Team, Sector 2, Southwest. In this role, DC Shuaibu exhibited exemplary leadership in combating smuggling and fostering inter-agency collaboration.

During his inaugural address, DC Shuaibu reaffirmed his commitment to the Command’s primary objectives: revenue generation, border security, and trade facilitation. He stressed the critical role of teamwork, innovation, and proactive engagement with border communities and stakeholders in achieving these goals.

“It is an honour to lead this strategic Command, which plays a vital role in safeguarding our nation’s economy and security. I pledge to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, discipline, and dedication in fulfilling our responsibilities”, DC Shuaibu stated.

He paid tribute to his predecessor, Comptroller JF Ojo, whose tenure was marked by significant accomplishments, including robust anti-smuggling operations and enhanced revenue collection.

Shuaibu commended the outgoing commander Ojo for his inspiring leadership and committed to build upon the existing foundation of professionalism.

Comptroller JF Ojo, in his handing-over speech, expressed his gratitude to the officers and men of Ogun I Command for their support and professionalism during his tenure. He urged them to extend the same level of cooperation to the new Acting Controller, emphasizing that discipline and submission to constituted authority are what ensures success.

CSC Oloyede disclosed that the Ogun I Command, situated in the critical Idiroko border area, plays a pivotal role in Customs operations, particularly in combating smuggling and facilitating legitimate trade, saying that under the new leadership of DC Shuaibu, the Command will achive improved operational efficiency and service delivery.

The new Ogun I command boss has called on all stakeholders, including other security agencies and the local community, to deepen the collaborative efforts between them to achieve specific objectives.

“Together, these partnerships will ensure the continued success of Customs operations and contribute to the economic growth and security of the nation”, Shuaibu said.
