Chelsea Football Club have announced the appointment of Liam Rosenior as their new head coach, with the 41-year-old signing a contract until 2032.
Rosenior arrives from Ligue 1 side Strasbourg also owned by BlueCo, Chelsea’s parent consortium where he spent 18 months, guiding the club to a seventh-placed finish last season (securing UEFA Conference League qualification) and leaving them seventh in the current campaign, with progression to the knockout stages of Europe.
The Englishman replaces Enzo Maresca, who was sacked on New Year’s Day after a disappointing run of form.
Rosenior becomes Chelsea’s fifth permanent head coach since 2021, following Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter, Mauricio Pochettino, and Maresca.

In a statement on the club’s website, Rosenior said: “I am extremely humbled and honoured to be appointed Head Coach of Chelsea Football Club. This is a club with a unique spirit and a proud history of winning trophies.
“My job is to protect that identity and create a team that reflects these values in every game we play as we continue winning trophies… I want our fans to be proud of who we are and what we represent in every single game that we play. They are the soul of this enormous, historic and huge football club. I cannot wait to get started.”
Rosenior’s Managerial Journey

A former Premier League defender with spells at Fulham, Brighton, Hull City, and Reading, Rosenior retired in 2018 and began coaching with Brighton’s Under-23s.
He held various roles at Derby County, including a 12-game caretaker stint, before becoming permanent manager in 2022. Over 78 matches, he nearly achieved promotion, finishing seventh in 2023/24.
His success at Strasbourg marked him as one of Europe’s promising young coaches.
Upcoming Fixtures
Interim boss Calum McFarlane will take charge for Wednesday’s Premier League trip to Fulham, meaning Rosenior’s potential debut could be Saturday’s FA Cup third-round tie at Charlton Athletic.
His first five matches include a busy London schedule across four competitions:

14 Jan: Arsenal (H) EFL Cup semi-final first leg
17 Jan: Brentford (H) Premier League
