It appears that the political tension and conflict within the ruling party in Edo State has no end in sight until the gubernatorial primaries where a candidate would emerge to fly the party’s flag.

The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, has publicly expressed his dissatisfaction with Governor Godwin Obaseki, accusing him of planning to install an outsider as his successor in the upcoming gubernatorial election.

Featuring on Arise Television’s The Morning Show on Wednesday, Shaibu claimed that despite his support and contributions to Obaseki’s political success, he feels betrayed by the governor’s actions.

He said in agreeing to join in the ticket with Obaseki, that he added value to the candidature and emphasized that if the Governor continues on the path of ingratitude for his support that the people of Edo State will resist him, especially in his attempt to bring in an outsider as his successor.

The rift between Obaseki and Shaibu has been ongoing since the governor’s second term began, and it has now escalated to the point where Shaibu has declared his intention to run for the governorship election, vowing to defeat Obaseki’s chosen candidate.

The situation highlights internal conflicts and power struggles within the political landscape of Edo State. As the election approaches, the political dynamics in the state will likely continue to evolve, and the outcome will depend on the support of the electorate and the decisions of the political parties involved.
