…recommits to Welfare of Pupils, Teachers

The Edo State Government has undertaken a significant effort to improve primary and junior secondary schools in the state over the last ten months. The Edo State Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, announced these accomplishments while speaking to journalists in Benin City.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to remodeling all primary and junior secondary schools across the three senatorial districts of the State, with priority on the welfare and wellbeing of the pupils and teachers under its State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).

Nehikhare disclosed that the government had renovated over 336 primary and junior secondary schools in the state, built more than 200 blocks of classrooms, renovated 202 other blocks of classrooms and penciled down several other schools for remodeling.

These initiatives aim to enhance the quality of education by improving the infrastructure and facilities in these schools.

Nehikhare emphasized the government’s commitment to remodeling all primary and junior secondary schools across the three senatorial districts of the state, with a special focus on the welfare and well-being of both pupils and teachers under the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).

Regarding a recent video circulating on social media showing a primary school in Ozalla Community, the Commissioner clarified that the school in the video is among those scheduled for renovation. He debunked claims that the school had been abandoned and that pupils and teachers were left in poor conditions and dilapidated buildings, reaffirming the government’s dedication to their welfare.

Furthermore, the Commissioner provided a breakdown of the work accomplished by SUBEB between January and October of that year, which includes:

336 schools benefiting from the renovation and upgrading efforts.
Construction of 200 new blocks of classrooms.
Renovation of 202 existing blocks of classrooms.
Providing 8,750 three-seater pieces of furniture for pupils.
Supplying 600 sets of furniture for teachers.
Construction of 41 new water projects and 210 new toilets for basic schools.
Completion of fences spanning 16,010 meters in 13 local councils across 27 schools.
Demolition of 19 mud schools, including 14 blocks of classrooms and 15 toilet blocks.

These initiatives indicate a comprehensive commitment to improving the educational infrastructure and resources in Edo State, enhancing the learning environment for both students and educators.
