‎The Nigerian federal government (FG) has announced the introduction of a new secondary school curriculum, which aims to equip students with relevant skills they need to succeed in today’s technology driven world.

‎The curriculum introduces new subjects like journalism, computer programming, artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics. Students are also expected to acquire fact checking skills to help them verify information that will bolster their critical thinking.

‎The students will learn programming languages like Python, JavaScript and HTML/CSS, to equip them with coding skills as well as other digital literacy knowledge like word processing, internet research, to prepare them as they transit into real ecosystem of digital emerging age.

‎Additionally, students will have the opportunity to explore music, fine arts, drama, and film/media production together with cybersecurity, data science and digital entrepreneurship, to give them hands-on skills for the future job market. These will build in them a strong foundation in mathematics, English language, basic science and technology.

‎The comprehensive curricular will give bolster the students’ knowledge about numbers, fractions, percentages, geometry, algebra and statistics in mathematics which are necessary tools for trigonometry, calculus basics, probability and financial mathematics. While for the English language, they will be tutored on advanced grammar, comprehension, essay writing, debates, speeches and drama.

‎ The new modules and subjects are expected to be accessed by all schools as the new academic session begins.
