A former presidential aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Enugu State, Dr. SKC Ogbonnia, has officially dumped the ruling party, citing disillusionment with the direction of the APC under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a statement released on Tuesday, January 14, 2026, Dr. Ogbonnia, a respected political commentator, engineer, and public affairs analyst, announced his resignation from the APC after years of active participation.
“I can no longer in good conscience remain in a party that has abandoned the ideals of justice, equity, and good governance that drew me to it,” Dr. Ogbonnia said. “The current leadership has betrayed the trust of millions of Nigerians who believed in the promise of change.”
He accused the APC of failing to address worsening insecurity, economic hardship, unemployment, and alleged corruption, while prioritising self-preservation over national interest.
Dr. Ogbonnia, who contested the APC presidential ticket in 2019 and 2023, did not immediately announce his next political platform but hinted at joining forces with opposition coalitions working to challenge the APC in 2027.

His defection is the latest in a series of high-profile exits from the ruling party, following earlier moves by figures like Peter Obi (to ADC) and others disillusioned with the Tinubu administration.
Political observers view Dr. Ogbonnia’s departure as a significant blow to the APC in the South-East, where the party has struggled to gain strong footing.
