Fulham delivered a massive blow to Chelsea’s Premier League title hopes on Wednesday night, edging out the Blues 2-1 at Craven Cottage in Liam Rosenior’s debut as head coach, a match marred by Marc Cucurella’s red card and visible frustration from the new boss.
The result leaves Chelsea seventeen points behind leaders Arsenal (with a game in hand) and effectively out of the title race, as Fulham remain in 9th place with 31 points, below chelsea, which is in 8th place with the same number of points.
But the turning point came in the 22nd minute when Marc Cucurella received a straight red card for a reckless challenge on Harry Wilson, reducing Chelsea to 10 men. This was chelsea’s seventh red card of the season across all competitions.
Marco Silva’s side took the lead through Raul Jimenez in the 55th minute, capitalising on defensive chaos and Marc Cucurella red card. Chelsea equalised via Liam Delap’s a clinical finish, raising hopes of comeback in 72nd minute, equalizing the game temporarily.
Fulham made the numerical advantage count in the 81th minute, with Harry Wilson stuning strike to seal the win for Fulham.

Rosenior, who only took charge on Monday, cut a frustrated figure on the touchline, repeatedly remonstrating with the fourth official and kicking water bottles in stoppage time as Chelsea’s attacks fizzled out.
Post-match, the 41-year-old said: “I’m disappointed with the result, but not the effort. The red card changed everything. We have to learn quickly and move on. This is a tough league, and tonight showed that.”
Chelsea’s defeat combined with wins for Arsenal and Manchester City has all but ended their faint title ambitions, with attention now shifting to securing a top-four finish under the new regime.
Fulham boss Marco Silva praised his team’s resilience: “We deserved it. Against 10 men, we stayed patient and took our chance.”
