The Chairman of the NFF Match Commissioners’ Appointment Committee, Alhaji Babagana Kalli, has commended the President of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, for taking action to enhance payments for football match officials in Nigeria.

At a recent Match Commissioners’ seminar in Abuja, President Gusau had promised to increase the indemnities paid to match commissioners and other officials, and Kalli is now confirming that these improvements have been implemented.

Kalli is commending the NFF President for fulfilling his promise to increase payments to football match officials in Nigeria and believes that this will lead to greater professionalism and commitment among these officials.

According to Kalli, the officials for the matches that took place last weekend received the new, improved payment rates, and many of them even received their money before arriving at their respective match venues. Kalli sees this as a positive step forward for Nigerian football.

“You will recall that at our Match Commissioners’ seminar in Abuja last month, the NFF President promised that indemnities paid to match commissioners and other officials would be enhanced. I am happy to report that this has become a reality.

“Officials for last weekend’s matches got the new improved rates. Most of them got their money before they arrived at their match venues. This is a step in the right direction for our football.”

Kalli also emphasized that with the enhanced package comes greater responsibilities, as benefits should be accompanied by a commitment to professionalism and meeting high standards. He called for a focus on improving officiating and match commissioning at league matches and other events in the country and expressed the belief that the enhanced payments would motivate match officials to excel in their work.

He said, “the enhanced package comes with responsibilities, as there cannot be benefits without responsibilities. We want officiating and match commissioning at our league and other matches in the country to improve greatly. There is now virtually no excuse for shenanigans. There must be high-level professionalism and a commitment to meeting the highest standards.

“We implore the Board of NPFL to maintain the enhanced payments and they will see wonders. Match officials now have absolutely no reason not to be fully focused on their match or not to upskill and bring new touches and flair to their work. We will continue to monitor our match officials and scrutinize their reports thoroughly, and those who fail to measure up will be excused without ceremony,” Kalli added.

Furthermore, Kalli mentioned that they would continue to monitor match officials closely and scrutinize their reports thoroughly. Those who fail to meet the expected standards will be removed from their positions without elaborate ceremonies.
