Mark Zuckerberg. That guy behind Facebook and Instagram. That’s not all. He’s that bone-faced dude who cancelled and banned the sitting president of the greatest nation on planet earth, Donald Trump, from Facebook and associated platforms, restricting his power of communication and engagement with his MAGA ‘deplorables’.

Well, seemingly, in a penitent shown of canonical homily has recanted. He just preached a major sermon about free speech that’s shaking things up in the social media world. It’s seems he experienced a tech epiphany moment.
So, what’s the tech homily about? Precisely, on Tuesday, January 7, Zuck announced that Meta (the parent company), is making some serious changes to how it handles censorship and fact-checking on its platforms. No more partnering with those independent fact-checkers—yep, you heard that right! According to Zuckerberg himself, they’re lifting restrictions on hot-button topics like gender and immigration. He’s basically saying, “Let’s get back to free expression!”
Rewind to a few months back in the early days of Biden’s presidency, such topics as Gender, immigration, Vaccines, Jeffrey Einstein Lolita cruise, Hunter Biden’s laptop from hell, BLM, LGBTQ, Climate change, fracking and all those woke nonsense were hate speeches to Facebook fact checkers,
So, he posted a video on Facebook where he talked about this shift as a return to Meta’s roots. This guy really believes we’ve hit a “cultural tipping point” after the recent elections. He said, “We’re going to get back to our roots and focus on reducing mistakes, simplifying our policies, and restoring free expression on our platforms.” Sounds like he wants to dial it down a notch when it comes to content filters!
And there’s more! They’re rolling out something called Community Notes—a crowd-sourced fact-checking tool inspired by what Elon Musk has been doing over at X (formerly Twitter). It’s all about letting users have a say instead of relying on possibly biased fact-checkers.
Speaking of bias, Zuck didn’t hold back when discussing those independent fact-checkers. He called them “politically biased and untrustworthy,” which is quite the shot across the bow! He admitted that while Meta started off trying to fight misinformation sincerely, it kind of backfired big time. In his words: “The fact-checkers have destroyed more trust than they created.” Ouch!
Now here’s where it gets even juicier: they’re planning to scale back content filters so they’ll only focus on illegal stuff or severe violations—say goodbye to censoring everyday opinions! Sure, some questionable content might slip through the cracks more often now but hey, according to Zuck, this means less unfair censorship overall.

Oh—and check this out—they’re moving their Trust and Safety and Content Moderation teams from California straight down to Texas. Big move! This signals a cultural shift for Meta as they start allowing more political content again and bringing back accounts banned under what many saw as biased rules.
Zuckerberg also hinted at some pressure from the Biden administration regarding censorship. He pointed out that this pressure only made foreign governments push for stricter controls too—a real mess of competing interests there! With Trump potentially heading back into office soon (hello 2024!), Zuck claims they’ll be collaborating closely with his team against censorship abroad. He stated confidently: “The U.S. has the strongest constitutional protections for free expression in the world.”
And guess what? This announcement came fresh off Zuckerberg meeting with Trump at Mar-a-Lago recently! Talk about bridging gaps; Trump’s incoming deputy chief of staff even praised Zuckerberg’s commitment towards reforming things—looks like we might be seeing Big Tech cozying up with conservative leaders in this new era.
So yeah, whether you love or hate Facebook and Instagram—it looks like things are about to get interesting over there! What do you think? Are we ready for less censorship or will chaos reign supreme? Let me know your thoughts!
