Legal counsel to Joseph Aloba, father of the late singer Mohbad, Oladayo Ogungbe, has expressed serious concerns about the suitability of the laboratories selected for the DNA paternity test on Mohbad’s son, Liam Aloba, citing potential inadequacies in handling post-mortem samples from embalmed tissue.
In a statement released on Monday, March 17, 2026, Ogungbe clarified the facts surrounding the court-ordered DNA testing process, stressing that the matter remains pending before a competent court and that misleading narratives in the public space necessitated the clarification.

He recalled that on February 24, 2025, the court ordered DNA tests to be conducted in three laboratories mutually agreed upon by the parties, with a Social Welfare Officer supervising the sample collection and submission to ensure transparency.
Laboratory Selection Process Ogungbe emphasised that the laboratories were not unilaterally chosen by Joseph Aloba: DNA Diagnostics Center, Fairfield, Ohio (USA) proposed by the Applicant (Joseph Aloba), Alpha Bio Labs, Warrington, UK proposed by the Respondent and Advanced Histopathology Laboratory Limited, London, UK independently selected by the Court through the Welfare Officer

Prior to sample collection, representatives of the Applicant sought confirmation from all three labs on their capacity to conduct post-mortem DNA testing from embalmed remains a specialised procedure required because Mohbad’s body had been embalmed.
According to Ogungbe, responses from Alpha Bio Labs and Advanced Histopathology Laboratory Limited indicated that they do not perform post-mortem DNA testing involving embalmed bodies.
He stated: “It is therefore incorrect and misleading to suggest that Mr. Joseph Aloba deliberately chose laboratories lacking competence for tissue-based DNA testing. The documentary record shows that only one laboratory was proposed by the Applicant, while the others were proposed by the Respondent and the Court respectively.”

Applicant’s Position Ogungbe noted that Joseph Aloba has filed an Affidavit of Facts to place the true position before the court and ensure transparency and scientific reliability in the testing process.
He reaffirmed Aloba’s commitment: “Mr. Joseph Aloba remains committed to due process and to any DNA testing procedure that is transparent, scientifically credible, and conducted in strict compliance with court orders.”
The statement comes amid continued public interest and speculation surrounding the paternity dispute, which has been a focal point since Mohbad’s death in September 2023.
The matter remains sub judice, and both parties are expected to await the court’s final determination on the most appropriate laboratory and methodology.
