The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has reassured Nigerians living in the Middle East that the Federal Government is actively monitoring the rapidly deteriorating security situation in the region and is prepared to take necessary steps including evacuation to protect citizens if conditions worsen.
NiDCOM’s Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, gave the assurance in a statement issued on Tuesday, February 18, 2026. The commission disclosed that it has received inquiries from a number of Nigerians in Qatar, UAE and Iran asking about evacuation plans and preparations.

Balogun said: “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working closely with all relevant agencies to put in place appropriate measures. We appeal to Nigerians in the affected countries to strictly follow the travel advisories issued by the Ministry and to contact the emergency numbers provided. Nigerians in the region should be rest assured that the Federal Government is monitoring the situation closely and will take every necessary step to ensure no Nigerian life is endangered.”
Ministry of Foreign Affairs Advisory On Monday, March 3, 2026, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a fresh travel warning urging Nigerians in Iran and other Gulf countries to exercise extreme caution. The advisory stated in part: “All Nigerians in Iran and affected Gulf countries are advised to remain extremely vigilant and conscious of their surroundings at all times. Avoid areas known to be strategic, military, or government installations, as these could be potential flashpoints.”
The ministry reiterated that “the safety and well-being of Nigerian citizens abroad remains the top priority of the Federal Government” and called on all parties involved in the conflict to exercise restraint and pursue de-escalation.

The conflict has already caused casualties, damage to oil infrastructure (including Saudi Aramco facilities), and significant disruption to global energy markets, with Brent crude prices surging past $118/barrel.
