The chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa has confirmed that all the Nigerian evacuees from Sudan are now on the Egypt side of the Arqeel border, and will soon be Abuja-bound.

The Nigerian government Monday said that Egypt had opened its borders to Nigerians fleeing conflict-hit Sudan.

And in an update shared on Twitter also on Monday, the NIDCOM said an Air Force plane was already on the ground in Aswan, Egypt, adding that the processing of the first set of evacuees would begin.

Late Tuesday night, Dabiri-Erewa provided a further update on the evacuation of Nigerians from the war-ravaged country.

“Nigeria Embassy in Egypt has moved all evacuees from the Sudan side to the Egypt side of the Arqeel border, with priority given to the females,” she tweeted.

“They are now being prepared for their departure to Abuja through Aswan Airport.

“@flyairpeace has just landed. Big gratitude to the Nigerian Embassy in Egypt for their tireless efforts.”
