The identities and photos of Nigerian soldiers ambushed at the waterways and dastardly murdered by irate youths in Delta State have emerged.

Some members of the Okuama Community in the Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State had on Thursday ambushed and murdered the Commanding Officer of 181 Army Amphibious Battalion, two Majors, one Captain and 12 soldiers.

The 181 Amphibious Batallion, Nigerian Army is a standing Joint Task Force (JTF) military command in Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State.

The unfortunate incident occurred when the troops responded to a distress call after the communal crisis between the Okuama and Okoloba communities both in Delta State.

Among the 17 killed are the Commanding Officer of 181 Amphibious Battalion Oleh (Lieutenant Colonel Abdullahi Hassan Ali), the Joint Task Force (JTF) Commander in Bomadi (Major Gembu Shafa), another identified as Major Obi and Captain Zakari.

The other troops whose photo identities have been revealed are under-rank personnel.

According to a security analyst who pleads anonymous, he said “this is indeed a tragic and deeply concerning incident. The loss of these soldiers is a great loss to their families, the military, and the nation.”

Investigations and massive man-hunt are ongoing to arrest the perpetrators of this heinous crime.

Many Nigerians are agreed that it’s important for justice to be served, and for those responsible to be brought to account for their actions, noting that such acts of violence against security forces only serve to destabilize communities and hinder efforts to maintain peace and security.
