Embarrassed beyond belief, the Ogun State Government has suspended Oba Abdulsemiu Ogunjobi, the Olorile of Orile Ifo, for six months over his “uncivil conduct” captured in a trending video. The video shows the traditional ruler abusing and assaulting an elderly man, Areola Abraham, who was seen kneeling before him.

The state’s Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ganiu Hazmat, stated that Ogunjobi’s behavior was not fitting for a king and that the government’s decision was made to protect the dignity of individuals and the traditional institution’s sanctity.
The suspension was made in conjunction with the Egba Traditional Council, in accordance with Section 52 (1) of the Obas and Chiefs’ Law of Ogun State 2021.
Additionally, the Ogun police spokesperson announced that the Commissioner of Police has ordered a thorough investigation into the matter.

Many have praised the government’s decision, with some calling for the traditional ruler’s removal. Others have criticized the six-month suspension as being too gentle.
