To signpost a seemingly lax disposition and double standards of reporting Democrats Versus Republicans, journalists, especially of the privileged White House corps are whining that the news traffic from the Trump’s MAGA engine room is already too heavy for them. Curiously, the ink isn’t even dry on President Trump’s comeback victory, they are already fatigued talking about being “exhausted”, even when the new era has not fully commenced under the second missionary journey on 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, Northwest, Washington, District of Columbia, DC, USA.

Interestingly, this are the same ‘Gentlemen’ of the Press who have been enjoying what seem like a four-year vacation during the Biden administration. They happily regurgitated press releases and treated Jen Psaki’s and later Karine Jean-Pierre’s every word like it was gospel truth. Now, they’re suddenly remembering that journalism requires effort, and guess what? They’re not happy about it. Funny, isn’t it?

According to Vanity Fair, reporters are feeling the strain of Trump’s fast-paced transition. New York Times White House correspondent Peter Baker lamented how “nonstop” the news cycle was during Trump’s first term. He added that it “ends up kind of becoming all-consuming and taking over your life.” Translation: doing their job is hard work, and they don’t like it.

This isn’t new at all but more like a double standard of reporting. When Democrats hold the presidency, the press becomes a PR ‘Vuvuzela’ machine for them—parroting or amplifying whatever narrative comes from the administration with little scrutiny involved. Under Biden, they didn’t have to worry about “fact-checking” claims or asking uncomfortable questions. If anything went wrong? Blame Republicans or ignore it altogether! But when Trump—or any Republican—is in charge? The gloves come off! Suddenly every statement gets dissected; every action is scrutinized; every headline drip with skepticism or wry amusement, altogether. It’s no wonder they’re tired because the days of being stenographers are over and they must now be actual reporters.

Trump’s unpredictable energy is too much for them. The Hill News’s Julia Manchester noted that Trump thrives on unpredictability, calling his transition a trial by fire and, rightly, she has a point! Trump has already set an incredible pace with his cabinet picks and policy announcements right out of Mara-la-go gate. But wait—shouldn’t this be what journalists want? News? Action? Drama? Instead of embracing this whirlwind of activity, they act like someone handed them a new jigsaw puzzle after years spent coloring inside lines.

As the world watches, the in-coming government is moving too quickly. Maybe, as a result of too much intake of the MAGA Kool aid! Even before officially taking office again, Trump shows he has that same energy renewed and the decisiveness that defined his first term in office, albeit many mistakes, anyway. Meanwhile, here sits an over-pampered press corps who will now have to brace itself for another four years where they’ll actually have to work for their paychecks! While most Americans might feel energized by having a government that moves quickly and gets things done—the White House media seems more interested in clutching its pearls while reaching for smelling salts.

Here’s a seminal thought for those working in media. Trump’s frenetic pace is a necessary call to action for serious journalists, challenging their critical inquisition to report on the go and accurately, too. If covering your beat exhausts, you so much maybe it’s time to find another line of work! Covering a president who makes real news isn’t some burden—it should be seen as an exciting privilege! So, stop complaining already—get back out there reporting because isn’t that exactly what you signed up for?
