PDP BOT Declares ‘New Era of Unity’, Backs Turaki-Led NWC for Reconciliation

The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has proclaimed a “New Era of Unity” for the opposition party, declaring an end to internal discord and extending full support to the newly elected National Working Committee (NWC) led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN.

In a statement issued after a crucial meeting on Tuesday, BoT Chairman Senator Adolphus Wabara described the successful National Convention held on November 15-16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State, as a testament to the party’s commitment to internal democracy and transparency.

Wabara congratulated the party on the convention and charged members to rally behind the new leadership to ensure stability.

“We declare our full support for the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee,” Wabara said. “From the early days of their tenure, it appears that our party is being repositioned, structures are being strengthened, and confidence is being restored across the federation. These are giant strides that give hope not just to party members, but to millions of Nigerians who look to the PDP as a credible alternative.”

Emphasising reconciliation, the BoT chairman stated: “As we celebrate progress, we must also embrace unity. This is the moment that calls for reconciliation and healing.”

Responding, PDP National Chairman Kabiru Tanimu Turaki thanked the BoT for its endorsement and active participation in the convention.

“We have had a lot of ups and downs. We fought ourselves and we fought each other. Other people fought us from within and from without. Now, it is time for peace,” Turaki declared.

He outlined reconciliation as a cardinal principle of his leadership, adding: “We believe that there is no dispute, no disagreement, and no misunderstanding that is irreconcilable, provided there is a common objective and common will.”

Turaki urged all members, support groups, and stakeholders to embrace the new direction for the party’s stability and progress.

The meeting was attended by prominent BoT members, including former Minister of Information Professor Jerry Gana, former Kaduna State Governor Senator Ahmed Muhammed Makarfi, and former Enugu State Governor Dr Okwesilieze Nwodo, among others.

The declaration comes amid ongoing efforts to heal divisions within the PDP and reposition it as a strong opposition ahead of future elections.
